Lakes, ponds, and reservoirs, as aquatic habitats, are quite distinct from rivers, creeks, and streams. The biggest distinction is that they are inland basins where water does not flow — there isn’t a current.

A lake is an area filled with water, localized in a basin, surrounded by land, apart from any river or other outlet that serves to feed or drain the lake. Lakes lie on land and are not part of the ocean, and therefore are distinct from lagoons, and are also larger and deeper than ponds, though there are no official or scientific definitions. This is a great introduction or lesson on water sources (streams, rivers, ponds, lakes, and oceans). Included in this set:~a 14 page shee. My Water Sources Book is a fun activity that gives the students a different way to learn/remember the different bodies of water.
